Well that’s what it feels like since Oceanic introduced the sweetest present that a scuba diver could wish for. I am talking about the Oceanic OC1 Pioneer Limited Edition Dive Computer. With all the limited edition and limited edition that is going on in the world today, I was skeptical. But I was wrong.
I know that Oceanic reputation for quality products and their habit of defying convention got them where they are today which is truly a good place to be. I read all the features of the OC1 Pioneer Limited Edition and realized that everything that I wanted in a dive computer was right there plus a few new features that I didn’t realize I wanted until I read about them.
All right you can call me a bit of an egoist as I do like that each one is individually numbered and that there are only 1,000 available worldwide but that is really minor compared to how it functions. There are 10 menus with 40 features that you can set. Five operating modes. It can be used for up to 3 nitrox mixes and as far as safety features there are 35 warnings and alarms built in. The electronic compass sweetens the features list even more. Read more on the features and benefits of the Oceanic OC1 Pioneer Limited Edition Dive Computer.
You would think that all of these features would make the Oceanic OC1 Pioneer Limited Edition a gaudy clunky thing to wear on your wrist but you would be wrong. The housing and band are ion plated full titanium (which allows a sleek low profile design) and the lens is diamond coated for the ultimate in durability.
To Oceanic I give, yet again, kudos for daring to take diving to the next level.

It is always a good thing to know the approximate temperatures of the water for your scuba vacation, that you are planning on visiting. In your scuba Open water certification course, the instructor will usually tell you to contact a dive store before you go. What the instructor usually forgets to tell you is that you need to contact a dive store located near at or at least near the locations where you scuba vacation is taking you.
We usually get a few calls a day from people who ask what the water temperature is, in Grand Cayman or some other tropical destination that is not even remotely located near Visibility Unlimited which we are located in Illinois. While we can venture an educated guess from our traveling experience, it is still a guess.
We came across a really neat website while diving the Internet and would like to share it with you. The site, Weather Underground, actually gives you water temperatures in color graphics and in real time which are all displayed on a worldwide map. It also gives you wave heights and the temperature from various marine buoys worldwide. I did put the site to a quick test as it had a box that allowed you to put in a zip code for coastal regions. I wanted to see what would happen if I put in our dive store zip code. Since we are not located on a coast (we are smack dab somewhere in the middle of the United States which is about as land-locked as you can get). I wanted to see what the result or the error code would be. Here is the very impressive result.

There are also sites on the Internet that will give you weather conditions for just about any location world wide by simply typing in your scuba vacation destination along with the word weather. Whether you are using Google, Bing, Yahoo or any one of the thousands of internet search engines out there, you are sure to get a more real time answer and in real time.
All I gotta say is “How cool is that?” – yes pun, intended!

Scuba Diving is a fantastic and fun sport, but it always sounds a bit of bizarre when you hear that scuba equipment is considered life support. When you hear the word life support, one of the first things that comes to mind is the machines in hospitals. If you really think about it though scuba equipment does keep you alive underwater. Without it, you would not be able to spend the amounts of time under water that divers do, without drowning. Please note that using scuba equipment does require training and certification in order for it to be used safely. The following story takes Scuba equipment up a notch and puts it into the category of life saving equipment.
The story of a man who saved his life by wearing his scuba equipment during a house fire, appeared online courtesy of KPHO Channel 5 TV Phoenix Arizona. The Fire Department responded to a one alarm fire of a residence in the Biltmore area. It was called in by the owner of the estimated 3 million dollar home who was briefly trapped in the residence. Apparently some innovative and quick thinking is what saved the owner from more than just smoke inhalation. With the aid of an escape ladder and his scuba equipment, the owner was able to escape from the second story of the house. The house is a total loss but at least he can still go diving.
In situations such as these people have more of a tendency to panic but this homeowner is to be commended because in order for him to use his scuba equipment, he would have had to put the regulator and the buoyancy compensator on to the scuba cylinder. The entire unit would have weight about 40 to 50 pounds which out of water can be a little awkward and heavy to the wearer. While this type of use is not scuba equipments original intended use, the owner of the house is alive to tell about it.

I love happy endings, well it depends if you are a family person!
So this man from Missouri goes to Mexico for a scuba diving vacation. He is sitting on the beach, waiting for the dive boat and he chats it up with the person sitting next to him and they realize that they have the same last name, start comparing relatives and then started talking immediate family, and guess what they both had the same dad. The new founded brothers confirmed their find of each other with a DNA test.
Have fun boys with your new families… and your new dive buddy. You have to love scuba divers!! Read the complete story at the Chicago Sun-Times.
