Scuba Brings Families Together

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

I love happy endings, well it depends if you are a family person!

So this man from Missouri goes to Mexico for a scuba diving vacation. He is sitting on the beach, waiting for the dive boat and he chats it up with the person sitting next to him and they realize that they have the same last name, start comparing relatives and then started talking immediate family, and guess what they both had the same dad. The new founded brothers confirmed their find of each other with a DNA test.

Have fun boys with your new families… and your new dive buddy. You have to love scuba divers!! Read the complete story at the Chicago Sun-Times.

Scuba Diving is the New Yoga

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

We are seeing so many negatives in the news media these days.  Not a day goes by without hearing about terrorism, crime, unemployment or foreclosures.  The list of negative words goes on and on.  It is no wonder that the stress levels of the world’s population has escalated.  People everywhere are trying to find ways to reduce their stress levels.  It is common knowledge that Yoga and meditation are high ranking activities on the list of ways to reduce stress.  They help to get our mind, body and spirit back into balance.  According to an article I came upon while diving the internet, by the Belize Tourism Board, Scuba Diving can now be added to the list.  According to the article “Recent discoveries by groups who practice both yoga and scuba diving have reported similar meditational qualities between the two, since breathing underwater creates a weightless state and the ability to achieve inner quietude”.  Even though I don’t practice yoga or meditate, I think I would be pretty safe in agreeing that Scuba Diving is a great way to reduce stress.

When I think back to my life prior to getting certified in scuba diving, I can remember that my mouth often spoke before my brain was engaged.  This led to some pretty interesting, if not embarrassing situations.  Something changed in me after I started scuba.  I was more congenial and quite a bit less confrontational.  People around me began to ask me if everything was alright with me.  I though it a bit bizarre for them to ask but dismissed it without a second thought.  They walked away with what can best be described as, a look of concerned confusion on their faces.

I did come across an article by Bukisa which goes into even more benefits that Scuba Diving has to offer.  Finally there is a form of exercise that is beneficial to the mind, body and spirit that doesn’t feel like an exercise.  Ladies and gentleman..it is time to get out of that rowing machine because you will never catch up to the the cute guy or girl using the treadmill no matter how hard you row. Then get yourself a dive mask, scuba fins and a snorkel. Take a scuba class and go diving.  I don’t think you will regret it.
