The Data Mask by Oceanic may look like it came off the set of some hi-tech Science Fiction movie but in reality whoever thought of this should be named in the scuba diving hall of fame. The idea for the mask has actually been around for over 20 years as that is when we personally, saw the prototype for it. The U.S. Military has been using the DataMask HUD for a number of years before it was finally made available to the Scuba Diving general public.
What makes it so special? How about the fact that all of the information that a Scuba Diver needs to know during a dive is integrated in an easy-to-read Heads-Up Display right inside the mask. Depth, Air Supply, Bottom time, both elapsed and remaining are just some of the information available at a touch of a button. The mask allows for nitrox use as well as for free-diving. The miniature LCD (liquid crystal display) can be viewed regardless of environmental conditions even during night dives as it has a user adjusted screen illumination. The image is clear and highly magnified but does not impede what the Scuba Diver really wants to see which is the underwater world in all its glory. You don't have to be a computer genius to use the data mask because, like all of Oceanic's dive computers, it is very user friendly. The batteries are even user replaceable. The mask itself is a single lens tempered glass design which has a surprisingly wide field of vision with a soft black silicone skirt that accommodates a wide range of facial sizes. Another cool feature is that you can program the Datamask HUD to monitor a buddy's dive information as long as they have a compatible transmitter.
The package includes: Oceanic DataMask computer, Transmitter, Batteries, Protective Case, USB PC Interface Cable and Software, Operating Manual, QuickStart Guide (on CD), Laminated Review Card, McNett® MicroNet™ Towel, Sea Buff™ Pre-Cleaner and Sea Gold™ Anti-fog.
